Identical or Faternal????

We found out we were expecting twins when I was 10 weeks pregnant. An early ultrasound was done because the doctor couldn't find the babies heart beat. One stroke of the wand and there THEY where. They were in separate sacs but according to the specialist at a much later ultrasound shared a single placenta. He was straight forward, no doubt in his mind-identical! I wanted them to be healthy first and foremost and then hoped they would be identical. The question is if they are truly identical why is it that only Reagan has a dimple?? Hmmm....well we could do a DNA test not quite as expensive as I thought or just wait and see. It's hard not to see the unbelievable resemblance. What do you think?

P.S. the genetic DNA test runs $160. they mail it right to your house you swab inside the babies cheek and send it back - the results are emailed or snail mailed back in 7-10 days.

Hi there, my name is Jessica..I found your webpage through JoEllens. Your daughters, all four, are absolutely beautiful! I have four boys, our youngest are identical twins. The only reason we know they are identical is that the had Twin-to-Twin transfusion syndrome. It is a terrible disease, but at least we know for 100% that they are identical. I would say (from all my medical schooling, hee!hee!;)) that they are identical. My boys are about five pounds different due to Callen's feeding problems from complications. To me they look so diffenrent, and Coleman, who is twenty pounds, has more dimples than Callen. So who knows, I would totally do the test, but I have a hard time being patient for many things!! Good luck, GO TEAM IDENTICAL!! Your family will be in my prayers...and you do have a brave husband in a wonderful profession...my husband is a fireman, so we have a lot in common it sounds like!! God Bless!!

Rachel,
Fortunately we didn't even know that we had TTTS until 25 weeks! They were born at 27!! It was a whirlwind fourteen days...checked into hospital to monitor babies...fly down to San Francisco to meet with specialist...check back into hospital in Portland...water breaks..twins born! I think it would have made it much, much worse to have known early on. I am so thankful your girls did not have TTTS. I am admittedly jealous of you, I was so sure I was going to be given at least one girl. We found out at 17 weeks they were twins, our doc. told us at 11 weeks only one in there! SURPRISE!! Anyway, the Lord truly does have a funny sense of humor at times. Can you believe the reactions people give you when you are out and about? It's like a freak show. Mostly people are probobly thinking, "thank the Lord it's not me". Four boys is fun, but really loud!! If you ever want to email me my address is below! Have a good one. ;)

Hello there Rachel. I was reading Jessicas comment and wanted to add to it. my girls (who had TTTS also) were in separate sacs, but shared a placenta. that is actually a common thing for twins with TTTS. i, too, am thankful your twins didn't have TTTS. you should check out the website for TTTS if you ever get a minute. it's quite crazy what all happens to those twins.(www.TTTSfoundation.org)
my girls, like jessicas twins and your twins, are identical, and have certain things about them that make them different. alyssa is and has always been smaller and shorter. she also has a cute freckle on her calf and butt cheek that caitlyn doesn't have.
but anyway, i definetly think your girls are identical. i am so excited for you. having twins is so much fun (especially twin GIRLS!!)
take care,
candice
